Menaflex

The Menaflex™ collagen meniscus implant (formerly CMI®) is a resorbable collagen-based surgical mesh composed primarily of type I collagen.  It serves to reinforce damaged or weakened tissue and provides a resorbable scaffold for replacement by the patient’s own tissue.

Menaflex is intended for use in patients with an irreparable medial meniscus tear or loss of meniscus tissue.  Extensive clinical data demonstrate that the Menaflex implant is as safe and effective for use in the meniscus as other surgical meshes for use throughout the body.

Medial Menaflex

The Menaflex implant provides a template for the body to generate new meniscus-like tissue to replace the damaged meniscus tissue removed during a partial meniscectomy.  The Menaflex device is sutured into place to fill the meniscus defect following a partial meniscectomy and provides a matrix into which the body’s own cells may begin to migrate.  New tissue is formed as these cells aggregate and multiply, and the Menaflex material is absorbed by the body.

This new tissue has the potential to restore function, reduce pain, and potentially delay the degenerative process that is initiated with the loss of meniscus tissue.
