ReGen Biologics Reports First Bilateral CMIâ„¢ Procedure

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ
-- May 1, 2006 -- ReGen Biologics, Inc. (OTC:RGBI)   A patient with injuries to both the lateral and medial meniscus of the same knee was the recipient of two CMI devices in a first-of-its-kind surgery.  The procedure was performed by Dr. Ricardo Crespo in “La Mancha Centro” General Hospital of Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real).  Assisting in the surgery were William Rodkey, DVM and Dr. Jose L. Sobas.  The procedure was part of a post-market surveillance study that ReGen is conducting in several countries throughout Europe prior to a full European launch of the CMI device for the lateral meniscus.

The CMI is a collagen scaffold which guides tissue remodeling in the injured meniscus after partial meniscectomy.  The company has been marketing the CMI for use in the medial meniscus for the past five years, and recently received EU approval for an expanded label to include use in the lateral meniscus.

Commenting on the surgery, Dr. Crespo said, “We’re very pleased to have access to a technology that allows us to treat a patient in a way that’s never been done before.  The procedure went very well, and we will be following the rehabilitation process closely to assess the patient’s return to normal activity.  This is a great opportunity for ‘La Mancha Centro’ General Hospital of Alcázar de San Juan.”
